- Account Information: When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, and password.
- Waitlist & Contact Forms: If you join our waitlist or contact us, we collect your email address and any message content you provide.
- Financial Data: When you connect bank accounts through Plaid or SimpleFin, we receive account balances, transaction history, and account metadata. We do not store your bank login credentials.
- Household Information: Information you provide about your household, including budget categories, financial goals, and transaction notes.
1.2 Information Collected Automatically
- Usage Data: We collect analytics data about how you interact with the Service using Google Analytics, including pages visited, features used, and session duration.
- Device Information: Browser type, operating system, device type, and screen resolution.
- Security Data: We use Cloudflare Turnstile to verify that interactions are from real users. This may collect browser characteristics and interaction patterns for bot detection.
1.3 Information from Third Parties
- Plaid: Account balances, transaction data, and account holder information from your connected financial institutions.
- SimpleFin: Account and transaction data from supported financial institutions.

- Power the Wally AI assistant to provide personalized financial insights based on your household data

3. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal information. We may share your information in the following circumstances:
- With Your Household Partner: Otter Money is designed for couples. Both partners in a household have full visibility into all shared financial data, including accounts, transactions, budgets, and goals.
- Service Providers: We share data with third-party providers who help us operate the Service, including cloud hosting (AWS), email delivery, payment processing, and financial data aggregation (Plaid, SimpleFin).
- AI Services: Financial data may be processed by Anthropic’s Claude API to power the Wally AI assistant. This data is used solely to generate responses and is not retained by the AI provider for training purposes.
- Legal Requirements: We may disclose information if required by law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request.
4. Data Security
We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your information, including:
- Encryption of data in transit (TLS/SSL) and at rest
- Secure authentication with hashed passwords
- Rate limiting and bot protection on all public endpoints
- Regular security reviews and updates
No method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you with the Service. Waitlist email addresses are retained until the product launches or you request removal. You may request deletion of your data at any time by contacting us.

We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors interact with our website. You can opt out of Google Analytics by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

The Service is not directed to individuals under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we learn we have collected information from a child under 18, we will delete it promptly.
